What Is Vietnam’s New Visa-Free Entry Policy in 2025?

In a push to boost tourism after global travel disruptions, Vietnam has expanded and extended visa-free access for many nationalities.

As of January 2025, travelers from 13 key countries can enter Vietnam without a visa for up to 45 days.

   🇧🇾 Belarus

   🇯🇵 Japan

   🇰🇷 South Korea

- Maximum stay: 45 days per entry

- Entry type: Single entry only (you must exit and re-enter for another 45 days)

- No visa application. Just arrive with a valid passport.

Can You Extend a Visa-Free Stay?

- No, you cannot extend a visa-free stay beyond 45 days while in Vietnam. However, you have 2 options:

- Option 1: Leave the country (e.g., fly to Thailand or Laos), then re-enter Vietnam for another 45 days.

- Option 2: Apply for an E-Visa Before Arrival. Vietnam now offers 90-day multiple-entry e-visas to over 80 countries. Cost: ~$25 USD (single) or ~$50 USD (multiple). Processing time: 3–5 business days

Who Should Use the Visa-Free Option?

- You’re staying less than 45 days

- You want a spontaneous or short-term trip

- You prefer to avoid online forms and waiting times

Entry Points Allowed for Visa-Free Travelers

Visa-free entry works at all major international airports:

- Hanoi (Noi Bai International Airport)

- Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat Airport)

- Da Nang International Airport

- Phu Quoc International Airport

- Hai Phong (Cat Bi Airport)

- Can Tho International Airport

- Also accepted at key land borders with Cambodia, Laos, and China.

Bonus: Special Case for Phu Quoc Island

- Travelers of any nationality can visit Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days

- Must arrive directly to Phu Quoc via international flight or transit

This visa-free policy is a game-changer. It encourages more flexible, last-minute trips and removes a major travel barrier. Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, or on a Southeast Asia tour, Vietnam is now more accessible, affordable, and open than ever before.
